The DS was a console developed by Nintendo and released in 2004 in Japan and North America, and 2005 in Europe. After a very successful run with the Gameboy Advance, Nintendo decided to step it up a notch by creating a touchscreen console based on the GBA SP design. Nintendo created the DS to follow their trend of basing handhelds on concurrent consoles, as the Gameboy was with the Famicom, and the GBA corresponded with the Super Famicom, it was only natural for Nintendo to try to make the DS similar to the Nintendo 64 as far as games are concerned. A few examples are the games Super Mario 64 DS and Super Mario Kart DS. On the technical side, it has two ARM cores, one at 67MHz, and the other at 33 MHz, a split core graphics processor sporting 2 2D renderers, and a single 3D vertex renderer, and 4MB of ram in the system pool.
