The Nintendo 64 was a 64-bit console developed by Nintendo and released in 1996 in Japan and North America, and 1997 in Europe. Nintendo wanted to trump the current market interest in 32-bit by releasing a 64-bit system, thus, the Ultra 64 was conceived. Nintendo had a real gem when they created the 64. It's superior 64-bit abilities left the competition in the dust. However, due to limitations with the cartridge media, the games had a pretty low size limit that caused a lot of games to take serious cuts for size. The Nintendo 64 still became a household name with such memorable titles as Super Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Banjo Kazooie. On the technical side, it had a NEC VR4300 CPU, a reality co-processor which handles the audio and video at 62.5 MHz. It also has 8 MB of ram in the system pool.
